Michelin Boy

Joe gave Alden a new nickname, "Michelin Boy." Our boy is so chubby, he has countless rolls. One day, Joe exclaimed, "Alden is so fat, his rolls are rolling over his other rolls!" It's a hassle to clean out between the rolls when I bathe him, but it's more work to try to dry between all the rolls, especially the ones in his neck (that Joe says doesn't exist). Whenever we look at Alden's pictures when he was younger, it's so weird to see him skinnier. Ha ha.

Yesterday, we heard that John was going to get a kidney transplant the next morning! Joe called me from school and asked if we could go up to Bountiful to see him. We drove up Saturday night ("unfortunately," we had to miss giving talks at church) and got to visit John the next day at the hospital. Everything went well. :) We got to see the grandparents, and other family members. Uncle Scott got to meet Alden for the first time!
With grandma and grandpa.

Once again, Tom, Laura, and Joe playing Mario Kart.
Where are the babies?

Yes... They were handed off to spectators. Ha ha.

Happy Thanksgiving!

For Thanksgiving, our family went up to Bountiful to see the family. It was our first trip up. We got to stay at Dad's place. Alden had fun time playing with all the family members. Surprisingly, Pookie was pretty good with Alden. She didn't bother him at all. He probably bothered her a lot, however, by taking everyone's attention to him. She tried to get people's attention by rolling on the floor, etc., but couldn't take people's attention off of Alden. lol. She tried to get me to pet her by rubbing against my foot, lying down on top of my foot, nudging my foot, rolling on the floor by my foot, etc. She ended up just giving up and petting herself by rubbing against my foot. Ha ha.

Daddy wanted a picture of Alden with Mommy.

For Thankgiving dinner, we went to Uncle Kevin's. It was nice to see everyone and have everyone meet Alden for the first time. Sophie was asleep when we got there, and she only woke up after Alden fell asleep, so they didn't get to play with each other much. We did find out, though, that Alden now weighs more than Sophie!!!

Uncle Tom loves Alden. :)

Dinner table. The food was wonderful!

Thankfully, uncle John put Alden to sleep right before dinner, so we could eat!

Sophie woke up just before dinner and sat by Joe. She must've been pretty hungry because she started sucking on Joe's arm! lol.
Joe and I brought our ds and yearim's, plus Tom brought his. We all played Mario Kart against each other. Laura killed everyone.

Family picture.

And then we drove home for my mom's 50th birthday. She got a nice wall-mounted tv in her bedroom for mother's day, and she wanted a DVD player in her room. So as a birthday gift, Joe installed a shelf in her room, and put a DVD player (she had one in her study) in there. It looks very professionally done. :) Now mom can watch her favorite movies on her bed.

We had some friends and a cousin come over for birthday dinner. We ate pork bulgogi (that mom had prepared the day before. ha ha.) and seaweed soup (traditional birthday food in Korea) for dinner. We didn't get a cake (no one would've eaten it) so we used my mom's favorite candy as a candle holder to blow out the candle. lol. We got Yeagi (who is in The Netherlands for her Master's) on Skype and dad on the phone on speaker to sing Happy Birthday all together. My brother recorded himself singing Happy Birthday and sent the movie as a birthday gift all the way from Korea. It was a nice evening.

Thanksgiving Wk

Yesterday, I went shopping with my mom. We went to costco, and decided to go to Ross to shop for some clothes to send to Yeagi. My mom had to run home to drop the groceries off, so Alden and I waited for her at costco. There, I found Alden's long lost twin brother!
A picture with his twin brother.

Then we went to Ross. This is what Alden gets for shopping with three ladies (Mom, Yearim, and I).

Today, we drove up to Bountiful for Thanksgiving. It was Alden's first time ever being on the freeway. He slept almost the whole way up.

Then we went to Grandma's house for a haircut (for Joe). Alden got another picture with Big Al. :)

I love you

Catch up

Okay... I've already started to become lazy posting on the blog. I gotta play catch up. Alden will be 8 weeks this week. He's starting to be more awake during the day. He used to just eat, poop, and sleep all day but now he'll stay awake for hours. He's started to make more noises as well, all those cute cooing sounds. :) Now that he's more awake during the day, he's slept really well the last couple days. He went to bed just before midnight, woke up at 3 am, 6 am, and 9 am to eat and then went right back to sleep without keeping mommy or daddy up. It's nice getting less interrupted sleep. lol. He has very strong legs, and he likes to stand up on his feet. With our help, he can support his weight on his legs for a while. Maybe he'll just skip the crawling stage and go right to walking... He's also started to smile. I'm not sure what he smiles at or what makes him happy yet though.

Because Alden is so big, (95% on the weight scale) he looks a lot older with his clothes on. When he's undressed, however, he is so CUTE! You can see his big belly and all his rolls on the arms and legs. He's such a cutie...
Tummy time... He's not very good at it yet.

Yesterday, we took him to church for the first time, officially. We dressed him up in his church clothes. He only got to go to Relief Society (he fell asleep. The lesson was too boring for him. Should've gone to E.Q.) but we're excited for next week, when he'll get to go to sacrament.

Joe and I have been trying to start a business lately. "Buy Invitation Only." It's a wedding invitation company. When we got married, we were horrified at the prices of wedding invitations here in America compared to the ones in Korea. Even though they were of similar quality, we purchased our invitations 5 times cheaper. So we decided this could be a good business. We've already located a couple of suppliers in Korea, and now we're trying to get samples from them. We're going to start advertising around BYU first, then slowly expand our business. Hopefully this will at least get us through school and buy us diapers. :)

Our hero gpa Rigby

Today Joe and I were invited to attend the American Heritage class taught by Matt Holland. The topici today was on foreign policy, war, etc., and Brother Holland invited Gpa and Gma to attend the lecture. At the end of the lecture, Brother Holland introduced Alden Rigby as a war hero, showed a little clip from the Discovery Channel documentary, and gave this little speech. It was very touching, and at the end, everyone stood up and gave grandpa and grandma a standing ovation. Everyone lined up to meet them after class. Some girls got very emotional and were crying. There were some servicemen that were very honored to have met grandpa. In fact, there were too many people that Brother Holland had to make people go outside and greet grandpa and grandma so that the next class could start. It was very fun to see grandma and grandpa. I wish little Al could understand the lecture so he could feel proud of being named after grandpa. I felt proud to be a Rigby, even though technically, I'm still a Kim, legally...

Grandpa and Grandma listening to the same lecture for the third time. And Alden got bored and fell asleep after the first lecture (we skipped the second one). Grandma did say that it got better and better.

Brother Holland giving the lecture.

Standing ovation.

Loot at all those people lined up! There must be over a 100 people!

I keep telling Joe, he looks like Grandpa.

I wanted him to look my direction for the picture but he just kept looking at Joe so I started singing and dancung and he looked right at me. :)

A hard day of shopping

Today, for the first time, I went shopping w/ Alden all on my own. I got to go to the bank, CostCo, and Albertsons to run errands and buy groceries, etc. Well, funny story about the bank. I went through the drive thru since I didn't want to bother take the carseat out of the car. This reminded me of the last time I went through the drive thru at UCCU. You know, one of those container thing that you put stuff in to give to the teller... Well, I took that tube thing home. Ha ha. It wasn't until I was almost home that I realized I had that with me in the car. So I turned around and drove back to the bank. There was this Japanese lady with a really confused look on her face at the drive-thru. She had gotten out of her car to look for the thing... So I handed her the tube and left. lol.

It was pretty hard trying to carry all the stuff I bought, plus the baby in the carseat. Hopefully, soon enough, I wouldn't have to keep him in the carseat. It'll take the extra weight off. And on a side note, baby stuff is expensive! Good thing we don't have to pay for his food, yet.

Last night, Joe and I were trying to keep Alden awake so that he'd sleep better later that night. He kept falling asleep even though we were patting him on the back to burp him, lifting him up, singing songs, etc. So we gave up and put him in the bassinet (that he hates) and he woke right back up. We cycled through the steps a few times, and finally, he fell asleep and stayed asleep in his bassinet for the first time! We were so happy, I even took a picture to remember the moment. Of course, he woke up half an hour later, and we ended up sleeping on the couch again....

Bonus picture today. I used the pillow to prop him up to nurse him while I was on the computer. After he was done, he was lying on the pillow, looking up at me, and this reminded me of a fish on a cutting board.... for some reason....

New Calling

Joe got a new church calling today. He is the assistant ward clerk now. :) Anyway, we went in before church for an interview with the High Counselor. After extending the call to Joe, he asked, "So you hold a current temple recommend and feel that you're worthy to receive this calling?" Joe said, "Yes." I gave him an inspection and found that he's hair was way past in need of a haircut and that he had not shaved for a couple of days. Then I looked at the High Counselor, and he already had that 5 o'clock shadow on his face (our church is at noon) and his facial hair looked as dark and bad as Joe's two days worth of growth. Lol. So I figured Joe's worthy enough to serve as an assistant ward clerk. He's going to be busier now with his calling but I'm sure he'll do a good job.
Joe's scrubby face.
Joe, spending time with Alden while I take a nap on the couch. The whilte stuff on his shirt is Alden's throw-up. (Joe later told me that was why he took the picture.)
Alden, sleeping on Joe's pillow. He likes to sleep on our bed more than anywhere else. Well, he absolutely hates sleeping in his bassinet so we mostly put him in the bouncer. But he still wakes up every half an hour unless he sleeps on our bed, in which case he'll sleep for 3-4 hours at a time...

Long Distance Baby Monitor

Earlier today, Joe and I went to my mom's house to rake her leaves. After Joe was done raking the leaves, he needed my help with putting the leaves into the garbage bags. Well, no one was home to watch Alden for us, and we didn't want to take him out into the cold. So we used our phones as a baby monitor (only works if you have free mobile-to-mobile plan. lol.). I called his phone and put my phone by the baby, while keeping Joe's phone w/ me with the speaker on. It worked out great. :) So later today, when I had to go do the laundry, I did the same thing. (We do have a baby monitor at home, but we're too lazy to put in the batteries. And I get free minutes on weekends anyway... ) I called my cell phone from the house phone, put the house phone by the sleeping baby, and went to the laundry with the speaker on my phone. I guess this won't work during the week when I don't get free unlimited minutes, oh well, but it worked well when I needed it so I'm happy with it.

Oh, and here's a bonus picture of Alden making a funny face.

My work station

This is how I work on the computer during the day. Alden gets to sit in his bouncer by the computer so I can rock him with my foot (we're too lazy to put in batteries in the bouncer, and besides, he can see me work-or rather, play- on the computer from there).

Alden's gotten so fat. Yesterday, he weighed 11.5 pounds! And yes, he's only 6 weeks old. His chubby cheeks are so cute. I've nicknamed him "sad face." He has this cuttest sad face he makes when he's hungry.

Joe and I got to go to the Malt Shoppe today for a snack. It's a 50's style diner. The service was really slow, and there were only two other customers (slow business). But the food was good (although the portions were pretty small for my taste).

New Blog! and nasty rashses...

So I decided to start a blog since I'm a really bad journal keeper. If you've known me a while, you probably know that I do not like writing at all (especially hand writing things). I figured if I had a blog, I could jot some things down while I'm on the computer. This is also a surprise for my husband who has no idea I've started this. He'd probably appreciate too since I could keep what we've been up to in writing.

Alden's been having these rashes lately. Last week, I had breast infection and had a running fever of 104 on and off. I still had to breast-feed Alden, and Joe and I figured Alden had gotten heat rashes on his face from being against my skin. Well, his rash kept spreading to his neck and eventually his torso, so I took him in for a check-up. The doctor told me (he had a cain, just like House!) that Alden has Seborrhea, which is quite common in babies and that Alden should grow out of it. We were given a prescription ointment, and I'm to apply it to his face everyday for three days. My poor baby... I felt like such a bad mother to let his rash get so bad. Hopefully, it'll go away soon.
